Hello.
I am a Canadian citizen that is living and working i n Japan.
All my income I have earned is from Japan.
I have no other source of income.
I have a TFSA but have not made any contributions to it. I do not have stocks, shares, property, any way of generating income in Canada.
I have residential ties in Canada (back account, place of dwelling, etc).
I have a plan to return in the future.
My understanding is that I am obligated to declare my world wide income (Japan) to the CRA.
I have already filed my Japanese tax forms and have received the tax documents stating how much I made and how much I got taxed.
I will add that file to my taxes under Foreign Income.
My question is will I pay taxes to the CRA for the income that I earned in Japan?
Is there a penalty for stating that I am a Canadian resident but currently living and working abroad?
I have little desire to be a Non-Resident because I want to live in Canada again in the future.
Thank you for any advice!
