At a department store shop of katsu curry. I’ve never had a problem in 5 years (on and off 2 weeks visits) of asking Japanese “ikura desu ka” but when I wanted to double check if I was ok to have the 3 waters that I poured myself ( as I noticed the other handles were turned towards the server) so I just ask san totsu ikura desu ka and point to the glass and also 3 fingers held up. She just stares and I repeat it 8 times the same words for how much and she continues to just stare and then start moving her hands a bit. Still just staring until the other staff say it’s free.
Also had the same thing asking at life supermarket for Koko a— cocoa. She stares in a way that wasn’t normal, even the cleaner knew how to respond when I asked her and the other 4 staff that I asked cocoa or choco to. That 1st staff just walked off.
