Is Kanazawa still worth going?

Hey all. Just a quick question, does anyone know if Kanazawa is still worth going to after the earthquake and tsunami? Im planning on going end of March and had planned originally to go to Kanazawa. Just don’t want to go if they are still rebuilding immensely.

  1. Kazanawa was not significantly affected by the earthquake in terms of damage. Most damage was restricted to the Noto peninsula.

  2. Just got back from Kanazawa last week.

We also visited Osaka, Kyoto, Nara, Uji, Odawara, and Tokyo. Out of all those cities, we loved Kanazawa the best. There were little to no tourists, and the locals were the friendliest during our entire trip. I’ve read other comments urging people to cancel their plans or giving locals their space, but those comments are all overreactions. We spoke to several locals who even told us they were grateful that we visited.

There was no rebuilding or damage, except for the castle which one area was closed off, but you can visit other areas where you can venture inside and look around. It snowed quite heavily, which made our temple visit to Oyama even more beautiful.

If you’re looking for a cool place to eat and experience an atmosphere similar to how samurais dined, please visit Barrier. Go upstairs! We were the only ones there and had impeccable service. I’d say more, but I don’t want to spoil it for you. Truly an unforgettable and definitely affordable experience. Enjoy your trip.

  3. Yes, absolutely go. They weren’t hit hard by the quake but tourism there is severely down so the region is feeling the economic effects.
