I am planning on doing a semester abroad at Doshisha University, and was wondering what their policy on tattoos/piercing is. Will I have to remove my lip piercing on campus/in the dorms? I am totally okay doing that if I need to. I am also okay with covering my tattoos, so I’m not too worried about that. But I want to know what the culture is like so I can be prepared. I am also wondering what the culture is around tattoos/piercings in Kyoto in general? Once again, I am willing to take anything out/cover my tattoos. Is it more taboo there than the rest of Japan? Or is it getting more progressive? What should I expect?
