90 Day Itinerary Part 1: The Beginning

Hey travelers! This is my 4th trip to Japan, and in the spirit of “Fuck it, why not” I quit my job and am going for 90 days starting 9/1/24. Yes, I am insane. No, I don’t have anything line up for after. Anyways, I’m starting in Hokkaido and working my way down. I’ve never been north of Nikko, so excited to explore some new prefectures! Any advice/recommendations are appreciated, I’ve booked the majority of my accommodations (all cancellable).

**DAY 1** Arrive Haneda, transfer to Sapporo. Land 8:25am. Drop luggage at accommodation, have a very chill day just putzing around where I’m staying, check-in ASAP, take a nap, get dinner.
**DAY 2/3** Explore Sapporo. Beer Museum, Seafood Market, Mt Moiwa, Historical Village., etc. Maybe make a trip to the Nikka Whisky Distillery.
**Day 4** Activate Hokkaido 7 Day train pass. Travel to Kushiro. Washo Market, visit the Marshlands, see cranes, prosper.
**Day 5** Travel from Kushiro to Kawayu Onsen. Spend the morning/afternoon exploring. Back on train to Abashiri.

**Day 7** Train to Asahikawa. Maybe Zoo? Probably just jaunt around, check out the area around my accommedations.
**Day 8** Head down to Furano/Biei, see rural landscapes, remiss the lack of lavender, eat some things, head back to Asahikawa to dinner/sleep.
**Day 9** Train from Asahikawa to Noboribetsu Onsen. Bathe like a lord, relax, appreciate life.
**Day 10/11** Train to Hakodate. Climb Mount Hakodate, spend some time in Onuma Quasi-National Park, fuck around and find out.
**Day 13** Train to Aomori. Explore. Eat apples. Do the damn thing.
**Day 14** Day trip to Hiroshaki. Visit the castle, garden, Samurai District.
**Day 15** Day trip to Lake Towada. N a t u r e. Probably too early for autumn colors but a guy can dream.
**Day 16** Train to Osorezan. Experience hell. Stay overnight to recover.
**Day 17** Train to Hachinohe. Eat at a fancy Italian restaurant. Find something quirky and local to do, relax mostly.

**Day 25** Train to Yamadera Shrine. Explore. Train to Murayama for sleep at a farm house/inn.
**Day 26** Travel to Ginzan Onsen. Stay in Ryokan.
**Day 27** Travel from Ginzan to Fukushima. Chill day, explore a bit. Eat the things, etc.
**Day 28** Travel to Aizu Wakamatsu. Explore. Tsuruga Castle, Bukeyashiki, Suehiro Sake Brewery, etc.
**Day 29** Trip down to Ouchijuku. Spend as much time as needed. Head back to Aizu.
**Day 30** Travel from Aizu to…Tokyo? Nikko? I’m not sure yet, because I’m supposed to have a friend meeting me, however I’m not 100% sure of their commitment.

Happy to accept any recommendations or ideas. I work in restaurants, so food is a driving force in all my travels. I also enjoy temples/shrines/gardens/castles. Is there a city or area that I’ve missed?
**Yes I know it’s a lot of travel. Yes, I’ll probably get the 21 day JR pass for convenience sake. Yes, I know how dumb expensive it is now.** Thanks all!
