Hiromu should win the New Japan Cup

I haven’t been a big fan of the Hiromuwinslol booking over the past few years, but with the news of Okada leaving, someone needs to immediately be slotted into a main event babyface spot. Everyone is saying Umino and Tsuji, but neither are proven draws or believable main eventers yet. So why not Hiromu, someone who’s a fantastic worker, super charismatic, popular, and a proven draw? The only knock against him is his size, but if Kenta can be a heavyweight, so can Hiromu. He’s also only 34, so you have several years of main event growth for him.

Have him win the NJC and hotshot him into the main event. Naito and Hiromu at Sakura Genesis would do a huge gate, and they could even have Hiromu pull off the upset and win. If not, he’s still be an established main eventer and someone who could credibly win the G1 or the Global title. The junior division would be fine without him with Desperado anchoring it while the likes of Fujita, Wato, and Akira continue to develop.

  1. This is what I’ve been thinking about ever since Hiromu dropped the belt to Despy at WK and people were worried about him and Naito not getting that singles matches they’ve talked about for years.

It’s time for NJPW to make some changes for sure, and one of those is letting the smaller guys move up to heavyweight and have a chance in the main event scene; Hiromu has done more than enough to prove he is a draw and him vs Natio for the IWGP belt has money all over it.

And as you said, Despy is a great guy to build the junior division around, along with guys like Wato, Yoh, Sho, Connors, TJP, Akira etc…

  2. That would be my route with Hiromu. I have Naito retain because I just want an uninterrupted Naito reign but a Njc win would establish him huge.

The other route is to have him win g1 and headline against Naito at the dome

  3. Hiromu coukd probably challenge Naito in story without the NJ Cup although yeah 8t w9uld help establish him further.

I think theyll use the cup win on a younger heavyweight and let the LIJ story tell itself

  4. Honestly would be all for this

In terms of star power he’s probably number 3 in the company right now and njpw need to try some out there things now.

  5. I like this idea. Hiromu is more than capable of carrying a main event house with a star like Naito. I think it’d be great booking to have Desperado and Naito at the anniversary, where fans would get the idea that they missed Hiromu cos he lodt the belt. So Hiromu wins the Cup to fight Naito in an even bigger venue. Gives great matches to Naito, which is the only thing he needs on this run, and props up Hiromu at the level he should be at near the top.
