I have used Tokyo Star for business purposes, but in answering a post in a different thread, I realized that a) the bank has reasonably robust information available in English, and b) it goes out of its way to say it considers non-Japanese citizens for loans even without PR.
I’ve found Tokyo Star to be excellent – reasonably clean online interface, easy to use and the staff have been friendly and helpful. It also plays nicely with Freee, one of the major online accounting platforms in Japan (and I think the most popular?) – Freee is also (AFAIK) the only one to have an API. Two thumbs up.
I’ve worked at, and been a customer of, many of the mega banks, and they suffer from the same faults that plagues all big, bureaucratic organizations. For those of you sick of dealing with them, consider smaller, local banks, and I’d recommend giving Tokyo Star a look.
