Does it make sense to live just outside a major city, by a train station?

Howdy everyone, I’ve been looking for information and opinions on those sparsely populated train stops just outside cities like Osaka or Tokyo. I have found a lot of info on living in an apartment in the city, or living deep in the country, but it seems like you can get a good amount of both by making use of the trains.

For my specific situation, I plan on working online, so being able to get to a job in the city isn’t necessary, but I still want access for fun and supplies. Meanwhile, being surrounded by beautiful mountains and having what seems to be much cheaper land / housing options sounds great.

I’ve been focusing my search on the Osaka/Kyoto/Nara area. From what Google maps tells me, it looks like many of these stations can get you to groceries in <15 minutes, well into the nearest city 30m-1h, or almost anywhere in the other nearby cities in 1.5-2 hours. That seems great to me.

Here’s a few examples of these stations:
Kamo or Kasagi Station, East of Nara
Myoken-Guchi Station, North of Osaka
Hasedera Station, East off Nara
Ninose, North of Kyoto
Dojo Station, NW of Osaka

What do you think of these places? Are there gotchas, like delivery not working the same or rural laws getting in the way? Can you get the same benefits another way? I’d love to hear all opinions
