Can a low-context person like me have a good life in Japan?

Hi all, I’m currently in Tokyo on my second trip to Japan. First trip was in December last year for 8 days, this time around I’ve been here for almost 2 months and my flight back home is next week.

I have a few Japanese friends who speak English that I’ve met outside Japan and they helped me to feel at home here. I’m studying Japanese (my level is N4 now) and so far I’ve had a great experience in Tokyo. I like the warm weather, beautiful urban landscapes and parks, everything is super convenient, public transport is great. I get along pretty well with the Japanese culture of respect, also, I love anime.

All of that makes me think it would be great for me to try and move to Tokyo (probably a couple of years down the road though). What’s making me feel doubtful though is the fact that I’m a very low-context person – as in I’d rather be 80% blunt and straight-forward to make communication more efficient. Here in Japan it’s the opposite though, everyone is expected to predict what other people think and “read the air”. This hasn’t really been a problem for me so far (or at least… I didn’t notice?). I wonder if it’s because my friends are kinda “international” and the few other Japanese people I spoke to for more than 2 minutes were also exposed to English and studied abroad.

Luckily I don’t quite need to make new Japanese friends – at least for now. I wonder if I will be able to have a Japanese girlfriend? It’s funny but seriously though lol
