Hiking trail recommendation

I often see people asking for recommendations for hike trails in Kyoto, and I thought I would recommend one in particular that I’ve done today (not the first time). It’s the Omuro 88 pilgrimage behind Ninaji temple. It’s meant to be a replacement for those who wants to do the Shikoku pilgrimage but can’t afford to go there. It’s a miniature version in Kyoto, kind of. It’s extremely easy access, and despite being within Kyoto city it’s a surprisingly enjoyable hike. It starts from the west entrance of Ninaji and comes back at the same place after reaching the summit of mount Joju. The bottom part is forest, the top is rocky. There are a few shortcuts if you don’t want to do the whole loop, a lot of benches with great views on the city to rest or picnic, etc… It’s really my favourite hike inside Kyoto city.
