I get wanting to make a plea to the world powers to dismantle their nuclear arsenals, but that is not something that will ever happen. Nuclear weapons are used as mutually assured destruction devices. The reason nukes have not been used since Nagasaki is because if they were used via ICBMs then all the nukes would fly. The reason Russia hasn’t followed through with their threats is fear of retaliation.
Japan does this every few years so that they can posture and make their voting base feel some national pride. Korea uses the “comfort women” issue the same way, but when they complain the Japanese government does what the US government does when the nukes are brought up: they shrug their shoulders and roll their eyes.
I am not saying Japanese politicians should stop doing this. What I am saying is news shouldn’t report on it like it is a big deal.
