I’m moving to Osaka next month to study in a language school. I will do the maximum 2 years term, but I plan on finding a job after that and stay in Japan.
I’m trying to do as much research as possible, cause I’ve heard how difficult the bureaucracy can get.
Right now my biggest problem is choosing a bank.
My Japanese is super basic (around N5 level) so I would really rather have at least some English support for both services.
I will have the basic needs of paying rent and bills, receiving paychecks (from a part time job), receiving money from my account abroad, and also a debit or a credit card.
I understand that it’s not so trivial to get a debit or credit card if you are a foreigner, but it would be kind of essential for me. Especially for the long term, since the interest rates on my foreign card are super high abroad.
After how much time in Japan would it be realistic to get one? And are there banks which are more willing to do so?
I would prefer to have at least some digital services, but I could manage without it if necessary.
