I am currently exploring an external opportunity to my current company. However, there is a slight issue – my current company’s compensation structure has a very high bonus component (a third of my total compensation) and is given out once a year in June.
The external opportunity has strongly indicated a preference for an earlier start, and said that they will try to partially true up with a signing bonus although I expect to still take a non negligible financial hit.
Is it legal to overlap these two jobs if I have enough PTO to ensure that I’ll not have any work obligations left to my current company as I begin work for the next company? I have also checked the terms of my current company and they do not forbid 副業, but I’m unsure if that is the same as being a 正社員. I suspect the overlap period will be at most 2 months.
Any help is much appreciated!
