I’m looking to go to japan for language school for 2 years and possibly stay after if I can find a software engineering job. I understand that foreigners have a more difficult time finding housing, and I also have a cat which I would like to bring which further narrows down my options.
I was planning to stay in a sharehouse or other temporary housing while I set up things like bank account, phone, etc. Then I would talk to a real estate agent (I have friends who can interpret if needed) to find a 2 bedroom pet friendly apartment and bring my cat over. However I’ve seen that often times proof of income is needed to rent an apartment, but as a student I wouldn’t have any income. Of course I would have the savings to live like this for at least two years.
Would this be a significant issue or make this plan impossible? I understand that students can often find cheap housing but my pet friendly requirement complicates things. Any and all advice is appreciated.
