Hello, this is a throw away account. I’ve already searched this Reddit and only found one other similar posts but the answers where not what I was looking for. I have already contacted the Japan New York consulate general, And the Japanese embassy in Washington DC. Well I was a student and working in Japan until 2020 I got married to my Japanese wife that year. We were going to do the spouse visa application after Officially getting married in Japan but , Covid hit and my place of work shut done. My wife and I decided that we would go back to New York State to earn our masters degrees in education to hopefully better our chances of getting a better paying job when we return to Japan. It is our intention to return to Japan next year and I will need to obtain a spouse visa to join her. We completely understand the spouse visa application portion of the paperwork and that we have to go to the New York City consulate-general to drop off the paper work. But we are struggling to find information on how we can obtain a COE when we both reside in New York State and not Japan. While I wait for the embassy to contact me back I was hoping that maybe somebody Has gone through this process and could explain how you obtained the COE from outside of Japan? The consulate general told me they can’t answer questions about COE. Any help is appreciated. If you have nothing of value or anything nice to say I would ask that you please refrain from posting thank you in advance.
