I’ve been looking for a place to move to with my girlfriend for about 4 years now, and Okinawa seems to hit all the spots of what I’m looking for, at the surface level at least.
1. Weather seems nice, as I prefer warmer temperatures
2. Safety is not a big concern
3. Cost of living is acceptable, still high for me as I’m from eastern europe.
4. I’ve wanted to try ‘island life’ for some time now.
Naturally most things I find when doing my ‘research’ are from people in the military / working on-base. But as an EU citizen, working at base is not really an option for me or my girlfriend. I’m mostly concerned about her employment.
Another thing is, I can’t really tell if the weather is all that good after all, because I’ve heard some stories about humidity so high it’s like “living under an armpit”. Also, how big of a concern are typhoons?
A lot of people have also been trying to discourage me for various reasons, but mostly distance, so just tell me, am I doing a mistake for considering moving here?
For simplicity, assume that employment is not a problem for me, as I work remotely on games and can self sustain from that. Also assume by the time I’m there, I’m gonna at least have very basic Japanese, as I’ve been learning for half a year now.
