My boyfriend’s bike was stolen right from our apartment’s bicycle parking area. It was registered of course, and we are going to file a police report and report it to our apartment management company (but sadly there aren’t any cameras facing the bike parking area).
It was stolen at night, and it had the proper apartment parking sticker, so we know the management company didn’t confiscate it or anything like that. The wheels were locked, but this was the one time my boyfriend didn’t chain it to the parking bar.
My two questions are:
1. Is there any chance the police will recover the bike, and has anyone had a stolen bike returned, or should we assume it’s a lost cause?
2. If the person who stole it tries to sell it for parts, are there any websites or stores I should be checking? (It was a very, very expensive bike, so this is definitely a possibility.)
