Does anyone know the best place in Tokyo to sell a diamond engagement ring?

I’ve tried going to daikokuya and pawnshops but they offered really low values like ¥10000 – ¥20000 so I decided to go to Ginza who advertised on their website that they do jewelry appraisals I got a much better offer but still really low they offered me around ¥50000 I didn’t want to rush it and I was hoping someone on Reddit could share their knowledge. I’ve heard that jewelry shops would give you the most value for your used wedding rings but I’m not sure which jewelry shops actually buy rings from customers. I would really appreciate it if someone could share their experiences/links to shops who give high and fair appraisals for gold diamond rings! Thanks guys!

  2. This sounds somewhat Sad, though I’d suggest going to Specialist shops in Ginza.

Caveat – I really have little knowledge on diamonds – I never bought my Wife an engagement ring, I simply bought an apartment instead, however now it’s sort of worthless – so maybe a diamond would have been a better deal, if less practical.

  3. What are the GIA ratings? If you’ve bought the ring through a legitimate seller, they should have provided you with paperwork about the quality of the diamonds within the ring (however many).

When it comes to reselling, that paperwork should be enough to get back a majority of the value you paid, unless you really got taken for a ride with a markup.

As someone else said, you need to go to a specialist shop that can inspect the diamond(s) properly.

Usually the legitimate way to get value back out of a ring would be to melt the metal down for reuse and extract the diamonds for reuse. I think just selling it “as is” will get you lowballed and is a sign that particular place isn’t really legitimate.

Many places that sell rings aren’t actually really experts in diamond, they just move the product.

Note: I myself am not an expert, I just did way too much research when buying my engagement ring.
