Any ways to talk with Native Japanese people

I’m wondering if there’s any sites or apps you can talk to Japanese people, the hard bit is.. it has to be by text, I’m too anxious and nervous to talk via video chat especially to someone who doesn’t speak the same language as well. If anyone has any text only sites that would be appreciated.

  1. Hello Talk. Its kind of like Facebook, but for whatever language you are trying to learn. When you post things people can correct your mistakes and vis versa. You can also friend people and ask to chat!

  2. I’ve only been on Hellotalk for 2 days and have already spent multiple hours talking to several really nice Japanese people.

The app makes it really easy to translate and correct each other as well.

  3. Also recommend HelloTalk. HT can be yuck in a lot of languages (for women), but the Japanese side is really great! I’ve met friends IRL in Japan from HelloTalk too. You can post in Japanese and you’ll get a lot of Japanese replies, then chat one-on-one via text (or voice). It’s fun!

  4. I have had some success with VRChat previously. Not sure if they fucked it up recently with a change in how people connect to different regions though.

But please note that people in VRChat and similar programs are not there to teach you, so you have to be accommodating to them too.

  5. I guess any social media would also be good. I’ve made Japanese friends on Twitter who I comment on. However, if I may, as a guy with over 10 years Second Language Teaching experience and a lot of education on the matter (including a Master’s degree), please don’t assume that talking to native people will be the magic bean to improve your Japanese. Writing and speaking are the result of learning, not the cause of it. Good luck.

  6. Lingbee – It’s an app where you can push a button and connect with native speakers of any language.

However in return you need to spend time taking to people who want to practice with you.

I like it as it’s a very fair exchange.

  7. The easiest way to make a JP friend is to play MMO games on JP servers. You don’t have to worry about wanting to chat online. I would say a majority of Japanese people online wouldn’t want to do voice chat, let alone video chat. Most of them wouldn’t even reveal their real names/genders/age/address to you even after a couple years of being friend online. And I’m speaking from experiences.
