Company says I don’t qualify for the unemployment insurance since I found a job right away

Hi reddit! Please I need some advice. So my company informed me October last year that they are closing for good at the end of February 2024 but my contract with them is until June this year. Naturally I wasted no time and applied for jobs right away and I finally found one last week, the official start will be in April this year. When informed my current company about this, also hinting that I’ll be needing my release from employment form soon to bring to hello work, they said I wouldn’t qualify to receive unemployment insurance since I’ve already found a job. That the unemployment insurance is for job seekers only. I understand this but is that really all? I don’t have an income the entire March so I was expecting to claim unemployment insurance for that month. I feel like it’s my fault and I shouldn’t have found a new job right away. They wanted me to claim unemployment insurance then maybe start working again in June. What’s the point paying into that insurance when you can’t even use it when you have to?

My company didn’t offer severance pay or anything basically it’s like “we’re closing permanently sorry bye”.

I’m doomed If I have no income and can’t claim unemployment insurance for March. I don’t know what to do! 🙁
