Whenever Tsukiji gets brought up on this sub, most people will point out that it’s an overpriced tourist trap. I went for the first time last year and enjoyed it for the most part, but I’ll admit that the Wagyu skewer i had maybe wasn’t worth the 3,000 yen I paid for it and several of the lines were ridiculously long.
However, beyond the downsides of it being a little pricey and incredibly busy, I still liked being able to walk around and try a variety of food, especially in the AM since so many places don’t open until 10 or 11 elsewhere in Tokyo.
But is there an alternative? I know Kyoto and Osaka both have street markets that are recommended, but are there any others specifically in or near Tokyo that are worth checking out?
