I don’t follow NJPW but whenever I heard a wrestler held the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, it made the wrestler look more credible to me as a WWE and American wrestling fan (like Nakamura, Vader, Omega, etc and it added to Lesnar and Angle). I don’t watch a lot of WWE or AEW but I follow American wrestling every now and then and watch it sometimes.
And randomly reading about NJPW, I found out the Heavyweight title was unified with the International title. I don’t understand why. Why drop the history and lineage with a completely new title?
I hate it when WWE does this. They do this too often and now their World Heavyweight title isn’t prestigious because there’s no history.
Since I don’t really follow NJPW this doesn’t bother me but I’m just trying to understand why companies do this.
