N1 or N2?

Thinking about whether i should take the n1 or n2 exam at the end of the year and need some advice.

Im at N2 level in terms of kanji already but of course revision is still something i have to do so i dont forget it.

Im in the process of studying n1 kanji now but not sure if i can finish by the end of the year and be solid in it.

Is it worth holding out until i can do n1 or should i just go for n2? Is there much of difference in the jobs u can get between n1 and n2?

  1. Go for N1, because why not? If you’ll go for N2 you will still probably eventually take N1, but if N2 will be easy for you, you’ll basically delay your possible N1 for half a year. On the other hand, if you fail on N1, you’ll know what you’re getting yourself into, so you will have better chance passing it the next time.

  2. Do a sample test for the N2 and N1 each to see where you stand. Then think about how much time you have left to study between now and the end of the year and set your goal accordingly.

Personally it was always obvious to me that I wanted the N1, because even that is not a very high level of Japanese.
