The usage of を and が in passive sentences, what do I miss here?

So I understand the basic structure of the passive sentences.

For example: 私は先生にほめられた。So I understand this sentence structure, since it is very basic and kept simple. However at some point in the lessons, we had lots of examples that included を and が and our class got kinda confused and I feel like there is something about particles and grammar I simply misunderstood or straight up ignored until now. For example these sentences:

私は父にケーキ**を**食べられた。

水**が**ねこに飲まれた。

私はお昼ご飯に食べようと思っていた魚**を**ねこに食べられて困りました。

In all these sentences the verbs and what the verb happens to are quite similar but why is it sometimes が and を sometimes and how to identify which one to use?

Another example: 私は顔\_\_\_なぐられて、けがをしました。

what difference does a 顔**が**なぐられて vs 顔**を**なぐられて make?

and lastly this one:

私は早く父**に**死なれて、とてもたいへんです。

this sentence made absolutely no sense for me translation wise..

I hope you can help me with that, as I was never someone who was really good understanding grammar in the first place. Teacher could not explain it well, class didn’t fully understand it either.
