Joining a Startup in the USA but will soon move to Japan, Tax questions.

Hello,

I’m soon joining a start-up back in the States and they are open to paying me in the easiest way possible to make this work, I’ve been dabbling around this subreddit for a while but to be honest I am almost clueless overall about how this all works. Is it better to be hired as a contractor in the long term or better for them to fork over the cash for a GEO remote-type HR company for me? Does the FEI apply even if they are paying me through a GEO-type business? If I’m making over the limit of the agreement between the USA and Japan even while living and working in Japan for a “Japanese company” do I still become liable for taxation over the $120k or so limit? Does anyone have experience if I was to do the other route of being a 1099 contractor and how it works if I’m a resident in japan paying into Japanese taxation, do I still become liable for the 15% US self-employment taxes etc?
