Hi guys
I’ll be going to Japan for the first time in November, spending 13 nights there. I’ve already settled on 5 for Tokyo (1st just for sleeping as I’m arriving late at night), 4 for Kyoto and last 2 for Osaka (open jaw flights, coming in at Haneda and leaving from Osaka). Which leaves 2 nights.
Initially my plan was to use those 2 for Hiroshima + Miyajima.
However, I’ve started to lean towards 2 nights in Kobe instead. I know it’s a lot less popular, but let me explain.
I’m quite interested in visiting Awaji Island Park, mainly for the Godzilla and Dragon Quest sections. I’d like to visit Himeji too.
Both are easily accessible from Kobe. I can’t really do them from Kyoto or Osaka because Kyoto days will be full (1 day for Nara) and i’ll be going to Koyasan from Osaka on my only “full” day there.
The only way to juggle these with Hiroshima would be to do each on the way to/from there and leave, while leaving luggage in Stations and arriving/leaving Hiroshima at night..seems like a bit of an headache tbh.
There are a couple more reasons that make it seem a good idea:
-Less money spent on transport. Cutting out the Hiroshima Shinkansen two trips saves me around 22000 yen per person.
-I plan on going to Japan a few more times and already have two general itineraries partially planned out; one of them includes Nagasaki and Fukuoka, and seeing as how I’d either arrive or leave from Osaka, fitting Hiroshima + Miyajima into that trip instead of this one seems like a no-brainer, as it is “on the way”.
Rationally speaking it seems to make sense. Your 2 cents?
Particularly from those experienced with Awaji and Kobe. Did anything disappoint you?
