Do people say “gozaimasu” on its own when thanking others?

I have been watching japanese videos and I noticed that japanese people say, “gozaimasu” when thanking someone. They don’t say, “arigato gozaimasu’ they just say, “gozaimasu”. Is this a common way to thank someone in japan?
