My name in the US is “Chosuke Lam” (not real, for privacy). In Japan my name is “Machida Chosuke” (my mother is Japanese, last name Machida). During a home loan approval process I provided documents regarding my US assets but it hit a snag because the names do not match.
I do have one document, my Japanese passport, that lists my name as “MACHIDA(LAM) CHOSUKE,” but as [I’ve dumbfoundedly found out](https://www.reddit.com/r/japanlife/comments/105fing/cant_use_japanese_passport_as_valid_id_at_japan/), the Japanese passport is not a valid ID in Japan.
Has anyone else dealt with this issue? Is there a way to provide evidence in Japan that I am the same person identified in my US documents?
Related question: Has anyone in the same boat successfully gotten a home loan with consideration of foreign assets under a different name, and if so, which banks have a more rational approval process? TIA.
