(Since I keep getting kicked off of the r/JapanTravel thread)
Hi guys! Wife and I are planning a trip to Japan this fall in September (Sat 14th – Fri Sept 27th) and doing some research and planning our itinerary right now. We will be coming in from Kyoto to Tokyo but we want to plan one day for Mount Fuji and Hakone Spa. Specifically, we’d like to do some hiking around Mt. Fuji and then relax and rest in the Hakone Spa for the remainder. So far all I’ve found is guided or public tours and the Mount Fuji site says it’s closed to climbers this 2024 on September 10 BUT we’re not necessarily looking to climb – more like to just to hike around the base or to a great viewpoint. Is there something I am missing or are we out of luck for hiking (not climbing)? Also, any suggestions on spas that don’t require overnight stay?
We are planning on just renting a car from Tokyo to do this – OR – alternatively, we can make it a pit stop from Kyoto via the bullet train! Need your guys tips and advice! What have you guys done that worked out?
