Shifting from teaching to software (with a degree and experience) doable?

So I’m a programmer with just under 2 years of experience as a full stack dev (React and .NET). I’m having a lot of trouble breaking into the Japanese market as it seems the number of jobs looking for people overseas are either extremely over applied or simply looking for someone with more experience.

I applied to some english teaching gigs and got a couple offers unsurprisingly. I know the age old tale that english teaching is dead end and you can’t get out but I have a cs degree and experience so if things fail I’ll simply return to the US and go back to programming. In your opinion, reddit, would I likely find dev work in 6 months to a year using eikaiwa simply for the visa? I also have been doing some side work recently so if I can I would still continue that while teaching if the visa allows. The job market is shit here and it’s kind of hard to judge how it is there while living here. My Japanese is about N3 right now, so not perfect but I’m always working to improve.

The plan is basically if I can’t find real work there in a year I’ll just go home and find work until I can get enough experience to command some of the mid-senior roles that I see open.

Thanks a bunch
