Mobile phones?
There was mention of a marine radio in the article, but are boats like this seriously using mobile phones as their main form of communication?
How far out can they be before they’re out of range?
And do the cellphones still work in the water?
A quick googling here says that waterproof handheld marine radios are available, for when shit goes awfully wrong and you end up in the water, including the ability to send distress messages to the coastguard with GPS coordinates.
Disclaimer: I don’t know, I am not a sailor.
