Tips on getting away from crowds for a anxious person?

I’m going to be visiting Japan (Tokyo specifically) for the first time in May :). This is also my first solo vacation.

I tend to get very anxious in large crowds and need to move to a quieter area to calm down when my anxiety spikes. My anxiety is usually triggered by loss/lack of personal space or inability to move in a crowd.
I live in the capital of a small country, so while I’m used to (and enjoy) city life, I am a bit scared that the sheer amount of people in Tokyo is going to overwhelm me and affect my enjoyment of my vacation. I’m staying in Ueno since I’ve read that it’s quieter compared to other areas of Tokyo.

I would love to get some tips on ways to escape/avoid crowds when I’m out and about, preferably something that isn’t just “return back to the hotel”, since that would force me to completely stop whatever I was trying to do/see.

And just to clarify, this isn’t me asking how to visit the most popular tourist attractions without other people being there (although that would be nice, if such a way exists xD), I’m just asking for general advice on how to get away from large crowds in a city I’m unfamiliar with.
