Alright, let me start off by saying I messed up and I did a stupid thing when I was younger.
I didn’t make my final payment for my cell phone bill 10 years ago when I moved out of Japan. I didn’t think I’d come back here ever again, so I went to the States. FYI I’m half Japanese and half American.
Anyways due to personal reasons I’m back in Japan now and trying to rent an apartment. I got rejected twice and I couldn’t figure out why. I finally remembered that I didn’t make the final cell phone bill payment, and I didn’t think it would cause any waves because it’s just a few thousand yen. I called AU and to my astonishment, they said it’s 70000 yen because I bought a smart phone and it was on an installment plan. Okay, no biggie. I’ll pay it off now. I have the money.
But now that I pay it off, will the guarantor company continue to reject my rental applications? Yes I understand what I did isn’t trustworthy, and it doesn’t paint a good picture of my character and I did an unethical action… But I was young and dumb and didn’t really care about anything. Am I blacklisted forever from renting apartments even after I’ve made the cell phone carrier whole again?
