So, My name is Perrine, I am an American student who is currently getting my Bachelor’s degree in Art & Anthropology. I am aiming for getting my masters in Anthropology along with another major in creative writing.
I absolutely ADORE culture and language. My personal goal is to learn 10 languages fluently! I can learn a few more but I want at least 10 fluently. Im going to study abroad in japan, as I already have the basics down and (im guessing) I learn a bit differently with language because im Autistic? I learn best by being surrounded by the language and I know this because I can speak near perfect Mandarin. I am also studying Arabic,German,Italian, Swahili, Turkish, Punjabi, Finnish, and Dutch. But I only started on those languages and really only know how to say hello in each.
I love learning, I am a huge history buff but more in love with Art and natural history than wars. I loved Japan’s rich history and want to live there for just two years, if not maybe 5 if all goes well.
Im worried though, Everything I look up says that a job for a foriegnor in Anthropology isnt even a thing in japan.
I speak and plan to continue to learn Japanese until I am fluent, so I know that must count towards something hopefully? But I am still worried about getting a job above flipping burgers. Not that flipping burgers is a bad paying job in Japan.
There are many fields in Anthropology and yet I cant find any in Japan. So, It has me worried about my chances of getting a well paying job there. I dont want to be rich or anything but I want to live comfortably.
Am I being too ambitious? Should I try to live somewhere else? Give up on my goal of living in japan?
Should I try to get a degree in something else I enjoy?
Please I will take any and all advice!

Have you been to japan yet? Not just through the lens of anime and mang? Polyglot, sure good on you. Autistic, didn’t see that coming. Where on the spectrum are you? Japan is notoriously difficult for anything mental health related.
A degree in anthro will be mostly useless until you’re native fluent. But since you seem to love languages so much, I’m sure you’ll get there. Finish your degree, that will open the door for work visa.
And if you’re doing college right, spend a semester or two studying here through exchange. ( I can’t tell if you’re saying you are or will..)
