Are you allowed to turn left onto a side road if there is a “Straight” indication marking?

This might seem like a noob question but I’m finding it confusing to some extent. A picture is worth a thousand words, but that’s not the case here 🤷🏽‍♂️. (Added the photo in the first comment.)

### Let me give you the closest picture through my wordings:

A two lane main road with a side road on the left. If you drive past the side road there is a traffic signal with road *lane direction markings* just right under the signal post.

But long before the signal, there are similar lane markings with **Straight Only** and **Right Turn Only** respectively from the first lane to the second. I would not worry much if these markings weren’t adjacent to the side road on the left. There is no other traffic signs for that side road.

Is it a violation of traffic rules if you turn left on to the side road considering that the lane markings indicate **Straight Only**?
