Koyasan during obon candle light festival (Aug 13th)

Hi everyone!

I’m planning to visiting Koyasan during Obon candle light festival on 13th August.

I will be staying in a guesthouse, not a temple for budget reasons.

This is my plan:

– Early departure from Osaka on 08/13.
– Arrive in Koyasan and explore the temple area (Kongobu-ji and Garan temple)
– Lunch somewhere
– Check in at the guesthouse
– Visit Okunoin (7pm begins candle light festival)
– Torodo hall ceremony at 8pm
– Little more Okunoin exploring
– Sleeping
– Morning: I read somewhere that there should be a public ceremony at 6am in okunoin temple, but I’m not sure (maybe in another temple Idk, I will ask the guesthouse owner). I would like to attend since I won’t sleep in a temple.
– breakfast, check-out, chill around a bit and then coming back from Koyasan to Kyoto.
(If I miss something the day before I will visit it this morning)

Do you think it’s worth visiting Koyasan during the festival?
The possibility of crowds and congestion scares me a little. 😟
Do you think that I need to book transport tickets in advance?

Thank you!
