Hello, I’m 25 years old from Portugal and have been living in Japan since last year. I studied in an English international school and came to Japan with my wife who is Japanese and Im currently an English teacher. This year I will graduate from my university in Portugal, finance degree and I was hoping to get a job at a Japanese company or bank but I have no idea if those expectations are real.
I am currently studying japanese everyday and im going to try to take N3 next October. I have no experience in my field of studies but I have a lot of experience in Sales, I used to work for 2 years in a car rental company in Portugal and I have many volunteer experiences as well, and im currently manager of an Eikaiwa here in Japan.
I heard that to get a job in japan as a fresh graduate one needs to be fluent in Japanese or come to japan with prior experience in the field. But going back to Portugal to get that experience is not an option because my wife got a good job offer from a company here and we cant stay apart for more than 2 years because we have a baby on the way. And to become fluent in Japanese i suspect will take me at least 3 years more.
What do you guys think i should do? I dont want to teach forever. I was thinking of doing a masters degree here in order to be able to do the job hunting japanese way and that will buy me some more time to improve my japanese but im afraid im not going to be accepted because of my low gpa and lack of recommendation letters. The other option is to keep studying japanese and apply to jobs once im fluent in japanese, but im afraid companies will not be willing to hire someone who has graduated two years before and has no job experience in the field. What are your opinions on that and what else could you recommend me?
