  1. Won’t be long before Tokyo has its districts restricted, glad I have never gone to Tokyo, I like to travel around and see the other cities and towns, Yokohama is nice, nagoya, hiroshima, Otaru, sapporo, and enoshima.

I don’t like crowds especially loud obnoxitious tourists.

  2. Hey, if the locals aren’t spending then it’s time to start charging the tourists. I think Japan is too cheap right now

  3. Meanwhile locals can’t spend because everything is more expensive and salary isn’t increasing. Really awesome situation.

  4. Well no shit. With the weak yen and the recent increase of popularity of Japan, this year will be sure to be insane in terms of tourism. Good luck to those living there!

  5. What I find interesting about that article is how domestic tourism is still worth way more 4x+ as international tourism.

  6. This is probably overall good for the economy. But fortunately I live way south on Kyushu so don’t have to deal with over tourism there.

  7. In 2023 we booked a trip for 2024. We ended up cancelling it due to some home renovations we needed. I’m very glad we did. 2024 seems absolutely bonkers. I know 4 other couples going to Japan this spring from my town (In Alberta, Canada). 10 years ago, Iceland was all the rage and nearly everybody we knew was going or had gone. 2024 seems to be Japan’s year.

I just cross my fingers that it’ll die down a bit in the next few years. I’d love to go back but will do anything to avoid the major tourist centres.
