To give you some context, I’m studying Japanese since almost 7 years and I think that I’m in an intermediate level. I have Japanese friends and I can communicate with them and I consume manga and anime in Japanese understanding almost everything. I don’t consider myself fluent since I still have a lot of vocabulary to learn.
During this time that I’ve been studying, I installed Anki 2 times and stopped using it after a while. This is the 3rd time I install it and after 6 months I want to quit again. I know that Anki is just a tool and that I shouldn’t rely on Anki for my studies and that’s why I also do immersion and talk with my Japanese friends. But I realized that I memorize things faster using Anki. So I think it would be a shame if I stop using it, but at the same time reviewing cards every day is very tiring for me and if I miss one day there are 100 cards the next day.
I recently started reading light novels and seinen manga which have more complicated Japanese trying challenge myself and get a few vocabulary. I feel that I’m learning something while reading it. I know that there are people who learned Japanese without using Anki and one of the things they did was this, but at the same time I feel that what I do isn’t enough since I feel that I’m memorizing less things than with Anki.
So do you know other tools or methods that helps me memorizing vocabulary without having to review flashcards everyday?
