I will be moving end of the month. When I arrive in Japan, how specific do I have to be on the customs form for what I’m bringing with me. For instance, I plan on packing my PC parts in my checked luggage. Do I have to declare each individual piece and its value? Or can I just mark “PC Parts x6 – $1800”?
The things I plan on taking with me initially include clothes and toiletries (duh), a CPAP, the PC parts mentioned above, trading cards, my camera bag, laptop, Switch, maybe some small crafting items, and paperwork for my jobs.
As for my household goods, I’ll have to have them shipped shipped separately behind me by a family member instead of as unaccompanied baggage, because at this point I don’t have time to go through everything and start filling out customs sheets for all of it. Since I won’t be declaring it on entry, how would I declare it later? And would I be taxed on it? Or would I be better off having smaller items mailed to me and buying new furniture in Japan?
