So I’m from Philippines with working visa in Japan while my fiance is US military deployed here. We would like to hear the inputs of couple who are in same situation, what are the pros and cons of getting married in Japan vs US?
I currently have a valid US tourist visa so getting K-1 visa is unnecessary. We’re just considering that getting married in US might require less paperwork and will have family around to celebrate with us since we are planning to visit US soon anyway.
After getting married in US, it seems like I’ll only need to update my civil status in my Japan documents and go to my consulate for Report of Marriage which I’ll also need to do anyway if we ever get married in Japan.
Also, we do not have plans to give up my Japan working visa over SOFA status and no plans to reside in the US.
Is there any important aspect that we are missing to consider here?
