Are there sharehouses that allow you to book months in advance?

Hey all. Sorry if this is the wrong sub, I tried posting on r/japantravel but got automodded.

I’m planning on taking an 11-week trip to Japan later this year, from September to November. I’ve saved up the money, got approval and time off from my manager, and am about ready to start buying tickets.

However, the one issue I’ve run into is with securing housing. Per the suggestion of several people in language-learning circles I’m in, I’d like to spend my three months in a sharehouse if at all possible. However, reaching out to several sharehouse companies (such as Oakhouse), it seems that booking a sharehouse in advance is not possible. I actually spoke to somebody from Borderless House who told me that it would be very hard for a foreign male to book a room, and suggested contacting “1-2 months before my intended arrival date” to discuss.

To be frank, I don’t think there’s any conceivable way I could wait until less than 2 months before my intended arrival date before knowing where I will be staying, especially given the fact that I would need to wait to buy my plane ticket until I know when/where I will be staying. All of this to say, how do people who stay in share houses normally handle this? It seems baffling to me that everybody who has stayed in a share house really just booked it within one month of their intended arrival date. That seems like many things could go wrong and I don’t want to have to stress about that.

Does anybody know a company where I can book a sharehouse months in advance? Would it be better to just ditch the sharehouse idea entirely and get a regular short-term apartment? I’m primarily going for language exchange purposes, so the idea of staying with people I can practice Japanese with is very appealing, but if there are other options I’d love to hear them.

Thank you for the help!!
