Absolutely stoked for this. Easily my favorite film of the year. I’ve never witnessed a screenplay where every single word was meaningful and had an impact. Genius screenplay.
Well deserved.
Got damn okay.
Oscar is overrated
Sad that it’s only the second Japanese film to do so. Lots of great Japanese films snubbed through the years.
Honestly surprised. It was an okay film. Every characters problem was so overblown. Everyone in that film just needed a few therapy sessions or to just talk it out with someone.
On my wish list (both book & movie). Couldn’t find the other film though. It’s still pending on this Wikipedia page, but there are other entries with Won. Not sure if they are oscars or other awards, but here’s in case someone else is curious too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Japanese_Academy_Award_winners_and_nominees
Was the other movie Spirited Away from 97?
Cool, have read origin book Marakami
What was the Japanese reaction to the Will Smith slapping and cursing?
Japanese interest was taken by Will Smith.
Congrats to all the people who made the film.
Movie seemed a bit slow and confusing while watching. After watching the more I thought about it and saw the hidden meaning and clues it became really good.
I haven’t seen this movie yet but I hope it slaps.
KEEP MY WIFE’S NAME OUT OF YOUR FUCKING MOUTH
I’m really really happy about this. This was my most favorite movie of 2021. Also liked his another work very much – wheel of fortune and fantasy.
Fun fact: the young female driver Misaki can sing. She sang Grand Escape together with Radwimps, the main theme of Makoto Shinkai’s animated film Weathering With You. https://youtu.be/BRqxO24nHjc
I saw some in Twitter feed that Japanese film industry should be recognized as a whole.
Because in recent years, most movies are in downspiral in terms of budgets, writings and other amenities within the industries. So I was pretty surprising that this could be regaining interest within film industry and somehow “Drive My Car” needed for some respect in the Whole Asian Film industry.
Departures and Shoplifters were so much better than this. Just seemed overly drawn out with people trying to get in touch with their feelings
does the movie is good though or is just artsy?
I’m glad it won an Oscar but I’m disappointed Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash, Belle, My Hero Academia The Movie: World Heroes’ Mission, or Jujutsu Kaisen 0 got a nomination for animated feature.
Didn’t watch the film but That old red saab is definitely memorable and neat
Well deserved. It’s way better than Parasite.
