My family and I got to Japan August of last year. My daughter started yochien in October, and has since been enrolled and started at our designated shogakou. She’s only been going for a week, however she knows very little Japanese, since she’s only been exposed (actively in school) to the language for 6 months.
For all of you who did the transition from American/English school to Japanese shogakou with your littles… how did you ease the transition and helped them with their frustration?
My daughter just broke down and cried that the only thing she knows how to say to her friends is “hai” whenever they ask her to do stuff, and it broke my heart.
