Is it possible to live and work in two countries?

German guy here, working in a public university in Japan. I really love my work here, but also sometimes miss the university culture I experienced in Germany. Especially the deep dive academic discussions we had in seminar classes back there. It’s a different cultural approach and I completely understand it.
Unfortunately also only few students are interested are doing master degree. I understand why (costs, job requirements etc.) so it is how it is.

I still have a wish to collect experience working in a German university, but without losing my connection and my work in Japan. Would love to give seminars in pedagogy / educational science, and also share my experience about work in Japan.
But practically, do you think it’s manageable to somehow work in both counties, switching the place for an academic year or semester? Can Japanese university allow this? I would have to take pause here while I give lectures / seminars in Germany. Have you maybe done it, or maybe you know someone was able to manage this kind of lifestyle? Is it difficult or even possible?
