I have tried to use a the strongest ケープ but its very watery and has no hold and makes my hair go back to curly. I also tried another hairspray which was the same. I’m thinking it’s probably not made for fine curly western (half black/ white) hair.
I’m originally from Australia and have always used TREsemme hair spray.
Is there anything similar to that available or does anyone have any other recommendations?

If you’re not interested in getting a straight perm, you might want to try some of the hair wax from MUJI. They have a “soft” and “hard” hold. I buy the soft one because I’m trying to keep fly-aways down.
If you’re looking for something that’s going to keep your hair flat flat. Aside from a straight perm, I can’t help you. Especially with the summer humidity coming up. If this is your first summer in Japan, just know it’s super humid.
Wow, finding the right product for curly hair can be such a challenge! Have you tried using a heat protectant spray before straightening? It could help with hold and protect your hair at the same time. Good luck on your search for the perfect product!

I have super curly hair and the only solution I have found is to get a straight perm every year before summer.
I’m also from Australia and I also straighten my hair daily. My process is:
* blow dryer with a brush for volume
* straighten with a GHD flat iron
* style with pink Gatsby hair wax
* finish with Schwarzkopf Silhouette hair spray.
The hair spray is the same brand and can design as the one I used back in Australia, you can find it at the bigger Loft stores in Tokyo like Ikebukuro.

My hair isn’t even that curly but it gets so curly during summer that I’ve been asked by friends if I’ve gotten a perm. The only thing that works for me during summer is to get a hard core straight perm.
With summer coming, just give up and keep your hair in a bun.
