I’m planning a solo (31M) trip with the main focus on the region around Kyoto. I also want to visit Hiroshima, as it is a really long standing wish for me to visit the Peace Memorial some day. I’ve done a lot of research already to make an itinerary which fits my travel style and interests. Currently I’m aiming for a trip of around two weeks during fall, probably the first weeks of November, but the plan is still very flexible. Looking for a check to spot any obvious mistakes and whether the amount of travelling is realistic, especially in the days after Kyoto.
For any possible suggestions: I like to walk through nature, visiting sites with any historical/cultural significance or just stroll around a neighbourhood to watch the daily life. I don’t care much for things like nightlife, shopping, and generic activities (e.g. aquarium, theme park). This will probably be the only time in my life I will visit Japan, so there is no saving things for next time.
And now for the itinerary:
\[Day 1\]
Arrive at Osaka airport, travel to Kyoto.
\[Day 2\]
Fushimi Inari Taisha, Tofuku-ji
\[Day 3\]
Kiyomizu-dera, Maruyama Park, walk around Gion.
\[Day 4\]
Heian-jingu, walk the Philosopher’s Path northbound, Ginkaku-ji.
\[Day 5\]
Day trip to Nara park.
\[Day 6\]
Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, Monkey Park, Kinkaku-ji, travel to Himeji.
\[Day 7\]
Himeji Castle (not sure yet if castle grounds only or also interior), take ropeway to Mount Shosha (Engyoji), travel to Hiroshima.
\[Day 8\]
Peace Memorial Museum / Park (planning to take my time in the museum, so expecting at least 3-4h for that alone).
\[Day 9\]
Day trip to Miyajima, hike up Mount Misen from Daishoin and back down to Momijidani Park, travel to Matsuyama or Imabari.
\[Day 10\]
Cycling the Shimanami Kaido from Imabari (send luggage to Onomichi or Osaka), stop somewhere over halfway.
\[Day 11\]
Finish the cycling in Onomichi, travel to Osaka.
\[Day 12\]
Umeda Sky Building (book in advance?), explore the area around Tsutenkaku, walk around Dotonbori at dusk.
\[Day 13\]
Minoh Park in the morning, head back to the airport in the afternoon/evening (depending on flight times).
