To buy a kei or regular car?

I am planning to purchase a car in the near future and trying to decide between buying a smaller Kei (軽) or regular sized (普通車).

I’ve never purchased a vehicle here before so I am very interested to hear the experiences of others who have already made this decision. Pros/cons of each?

Kei seems like it would be great for navigating very narrow streets here but might be uncomfortable for long drives.

I build custom furniture and need to occasionally haul wood so was considering one of those small box-shaped kei with roof racks on them. (Honda N-box?)

For reference I am mostly in Aichi and Nagano but that will likely change soon. No kids, just wife who already owns a Prius. I am not concerned with appearance or status symbols, just want something comfortable and practical.
