How to file a missing mail international inquiry with Japan post office?

Hey friends. While I was traveling in Japan, I mailed a package from the [Noboribetsu Onsen post office](https://map.japanpost.jp/p/search/dtl/300190131000/) on Oct 31 back to my home address in the US. It was received into a NJ distribution center back on Jan 27. I called USPS to inquire about this, and they told me that I needed to reach out to the sending post office to have them initiate an international inquiry on the status of the package, and that would then get sent to the distribution center to provide an update to JP Post and USPS.

However, the JP Post website says to “Please fill out and submit a Search Request Form in the same Branch/Post Office from where you sent the original item. Please note that we cannot take a search request by phone.” Well, I am back in the US, nowhere near Noboribetsu. Is there any way to get them to file the international inquiry, even though I can’t show up to a post office in person? It’s clearly in the US now, I just need them to file the search as the originating country.
