2.5 Week Honeymoon – Full Itinerary

My husband and I are leaving for our honeymoon in Japan in two days (eek!)

Here is our current itinerary:

**Wednesday, May 15th – Toronto**

* Fly out of Toronto Canada at 10:00 am.
* Fill out customs forms during layover in Calgary

**Thursday, May 16th- Tokyo**

* Arrive in Narita \~4:30 pm.
* Pick up physical Suica card (android), physical sims (our phones aren’t compatible with esim), and buy NEX/Skyliner tickets (whichever has better timing for us)
* Possibly buy food at Narita and eat on train.
* Arrive at hotel, sleep

**Friday, May 17th- Tokyo**

* Slow start to the morning, then wander around Akihabara
* Sumo Tournament @ Ryogoku – planning to arrive at 2-2:30pm.
* Wander area near arena for dinner

**Saturday, May 18th- Tokyo**

* Line up for Imperial palace tour tickets at 9am (we missed getting the online reservation for this time slot).
* If we don’t get a spot on the tour, we will do East Gardens instead)
* Go to Senso-ji to join Sanja Matsuri festivities
* Wander around Asakusa

**Sunday, May 19th – Tokyo**

* East gardens tour (if we did not do it on Saturday)
* Visit Gundam Statue and view Rainbow Bridge
* Visit Museum of Emerging Science (3:20pm show booked in dome)

**Monday, May 20th – – Tokyo -> Kyoto**

* Leaving Tokyo via Tokyo Station in the AM (have not purchased Shikansen tickets yet, damned Visa), hoping to arrive by noon latest. Hotel is in Gion.
* Head to Nishiki Market for food.
* Head to Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavillion)
* Walk Philosophers close to sunset (not walking entire path) — exit back at Ginkaku-ji.

**Tuesday, May 21st – Kyoto**

* Wake up early to get to Arashiyama Bamboo Forest & Monkey Park for about 8am
* Visit Bamboo Grove, Tenryujii Temple, Togetsukyo Bridge and Monkey Park
* Bus to Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavillion)
* Bus to To-ji
* Bus back to Gion and visit in evening.

**Wednesday, May 22nd- Kyoto**

* Ship luggage to Hiroshima hotel
* 9:30 guided tour at Kyoto Sento Imperial Palace (booked)
* Self-guided tour at Imperial Palace after.
* Visit Nijo Castle
* Sanjusangendo Hall
* Visit Kiyomizu-dera for sunset

**Thursday, May 23rd – Kyoto/Nara**

* Visit Fushimi Inari in AM as early as possible.
* Train to Nara
* Visit Deer Park, Isui-en Garden, Tōdai-ji Temple, Naramachi
* Train back to Kyoto

**Friday, May 24th – Kyoto -> Himeji – > Hiroshima**

* Transfer to Hiroshima with a stop in Himeji to visit castle and garden

**Saturday, May 25th – Hiroshima**

* Explore Hiroshima
* Toshogu Shrine
* Hiroshima Castle
* Atomic Bomb Dome/Memorial hall
* Atomic Bomb Museum
* Memorial Peace Park

**Sunday, May 26th – Miyajima**

* Take transit to Miyajima and spend the day exploring the island.
* Itsukushima Shrine
* Mitaki-dera Temple
* Back to Hiroshima hotel. Possible opportunity to

**Monday, May 27th – Hiroshima -> Tokyo**

* Take Shikansen back to Tokyo to hotel in Shinjuku
* Tokyo Metro Gov’t Building for Sunset view

**Tuesday, May 28th – Thursday, May 30th – Tokyo**

* Very little plans for these days, mostly just wandering around Shinjuku/Shibuya/Roppongi, shopping, etc.
* ***Q:*** *We’d like to see a cabaret and/or cirque/pole/aerial show – any recommendations?*
* ***Q:*** *What else would you do during these days?*
* Shibuya:
* Shibuya Crossing
* Hachiko Statue
* Harajuku
* Shinjuku:
* Tokyo Metro Gov’t (if didn’t do on 27th)

**Friday, May 31st**

* Fly home from Narita @ 6:30 pm. Probably will pick up last minute souvenirs in the am.

Is there anything that is missing or a glaring mistake?

I’ve tried to keep enough time for wandering (aside from Kyoto — that is going to be hectic) while also not missing too many sight-seeing opportunities. This is our official honeymoon and probably our last trip before kids so we’d love to make the most out of it!
